# Use Latch in your browser No installs needed. You need a Level Up account and a password manager (1Password, Apple Passwords, Bitwarden...). ## 1. Sign in Open https://latch.leveluptoday.ai and click **Sign in with Level Up**. ## 2. Create your key (once) Your key is two parts: a **public key** (`age1...`, safe to share) and a **secret key** (`AGE-SECRET-KEY-1...`, yours alone). Latch never stores the secret key. If you lose it, you lose access until you make a new one. 1. Open **Identities**, then **Register your key**. 2. For **id**, enter something like `yourname-laptop`. For **display name**, enter your name. 3. Click **Generate a new keypair in this browser**. 4. **Save the secret key now** in your password manager, as a new secure note named "Latch key". It is shown once. 5. Click **Register**. Your key now waits for an **admin's approval**. Rob will confirm with you directly, then approve it. Until then it can't open anything. That is on purpose: nobody can quietly swap your key for theirs. ## 3. Get access to a file Ask an admin for access ("please give me `homeonmaui/mls.yaml`"). Once granted and approved, it shows up under **Files**. You only ever see the files you have access to. ## 4. Open a secret 1. Click **unlock** at the top right and paste your secret key (`AGE-SECRET-KEY-1...`). It stays in this browser tab only and is forgotten when you close the tab. 2. Open the file under **Files**. The values are decrypted in your browser. 3. To change a value: **Edit**, then **Save (encrypt & commit)**. ## Lost your secret key, or a new computer? Register a new key (step 2) and tell an admin, who approves it after checking with you. Then remove the old one on **Identities** if you no longer use it. ## Tips - Never paste secrets into chat, email or documents. Share access to the Latch file instead. - Leaving a shared computer: close the tab (that forgets the key) and sign out.
